FAQ

The structure of the board papers is different. The IGCSE First Language English (FLE) course is generally preferred by Mumbai schools, and students are tested on Papers 1 and 2. Some schools have coursework in lieu of Paper 2. English Literature is also compulsory in most schools, and there are 3 exam papers or 2 plus coursework-depending on what each school opts for.

All IB schools offer English at both Standard Level (SL) and Higher Level (HL). A greater number of school hours are devoted to HL, there are more literary texts, an additional essay on a text, and the grade boundaries are higher.

However, both boards have a similar analytical approach to learning.

Firstly, a student needs to be genuinely interested in improving his or her English language skills. Effort and initiative are very necessary to maximise the benefits of the knowledge and training they receive. Assignments should be submitted regularly and in a timely manner, so that the feedback can also be beneficial.

Classes are conducted at our learning centre. Online (ZOOM) classes are also conducted as and when necessary, or when travelling to class is not possible.

Our learning centre is located in South Mumbai at Bombay Mutual Annexe, 4th floor, Rustom Sidhwa Road, Behind Citibank, off D. N. Road, Fort, Mumbai 400001.

The centre is open from 10am to 7pm – Mondays through Thursdays and from 10am to 5:30pm on Fridays. We are closed on Saturdays unless there is an extra class scheduled.

Our academic term commences on 01 August each year and ends on 31 May the following year for students from all schools, irrespective of their different terms.

Regular classes are scheduled from Monday through Thursday, between 3:00pm and 7:30pm

For grades 9 upwards, all the teaching is handled personally by Jean Wadia. For grades 7 and 8, there is a teacher who works under supervision at the centre. However, the lesson content for each class is prepared by Jean.

Typically, the duration of a class is an hour. It could get extended on occasion.

Our batches consist of 6 students or less.

We assign students to a batch generally by grade and school. Sometimes, if there are too few students from a particular school, they may be included in a batch with students from other schools. Students often also interact individually for assignments in addition to the group class sessions.

Most students learn and work better in groups, and when they find themselves challenged by their peers. The classes are also more interesting and enjoyable because of the constant interaction.

Students attend in batches and there is no facility for individual coaching for the entire programme. However, students often interact with us individually for their assignments.

They need to carry their laptops and the textbooks they are studying.

Extra classes are organised whenever necessary, usually during tests and examinations at mutually convenient timings. Additionally, if students wish to work on any assignment under supervision or peruse additional study material from our library of resources, they can inform us and come to the centre at any time from Monday to Friday between 10:30am and 5:30pm.

Extra classes are held during the exams whenever necessary. [See above]

No classes are held during the summer vacations, from 01 June to 31 July. During the Diwali and Christmas vacations classes may be held on a need basis. However, the centre remains open on weekdays throughout the year.

We will try our best to accommodate him/her on another day, if possible, but this cannot be guaranteed. In either case, whatever classwork your child has missed will be emailed immediately or handed over in a subsequent class.

We will reschedule it for a mutually convenient date.

He or she can join via Zoom, but as far as possible, attending in person is better, as your child will not be able to participate actively in discussions or refer to any physical study resources that may be circulated in class.

While our Zoom classes provide flexibility of location, physical interaction makes the classes livelier and more interesting. Students also need to attend to access literature reference material. A combination of the two is more effective.

There are four separate classrooms; so, there is enough space for students to wait, or spread out and work separately, if the need arises.

Support extends beyond the class throughout the academic year. Students are free to work on assignments or discuss them individually at mutually convenient times, and constantly email work for correction and feedback.

We do assign homework occasionally. In addition, IGCSE students are expected to regularly submit assignments from the online language courses – ideally at least 4 in a month.

Some IGCSE assignments can be self-assessed online. Other assignments for both IGCSE and IB students must be emailed to us for correction and detailed feedback. Assignments need to be submitted on time and in MS Word format.

A monthly report is generated for the parents of IGCSE students that summarises their children’s progress in the online language courses. IGCSE and IB students’ parents are also contacted individually if we need to discuss any issues regarding their children’s performance.

Reference material related to language and literature texts is often distributed in class and online.

Our resources include vocabulary exercises, punctuation exercises, miscellaneous interactive grammar games and worksheets for improving language skills. Study guides for many of the set texts for both the board exams are also available for perusal along with exemplars of past IB Papers 1 and 2, theory handouts, templates for paper analysis etc.

We do not offer those services. Our entire focus is only on work related to the IGCSE and IB board exams, and we do not digress from the mainstream programmes.

We do not undertake training for SAT, ACT, GRE or GMAT. However, we do have an excellent pre-SAT vocabulary building skills program that we offer free of charge to students enrolled with us for IGCSE and IB.

That is not possible. For outstation students, we currently have an online programme only for IGCSE English language. Please check out the ‘Online Courses’ section of this website for more details.
